Italy and Brazil are up to something good – the Italian Undersecretary for Communications Luigi Vimercati and Brazil’s pop-star turned Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil have issued a Joint Declaration on Internet Rights(pdf), which proposes the creation of an international “Internet Bill of Rights.” Among its key provisions:
“Privacy, data protection, freedom of expression, universal accessibility, network neutrability, interoperability, use of format and open standards, free access to information and knowledge, right to innovation and a fair and competitive market and consumers safeguard.”
